The Armor of the Storm Trooper
One of the most terrifying suits of armor in the Star Wars Universe is the Storm Trooper armor. The purpose of this armor is two fold as it offers limited protection from such obstacles as blaster fire, but was also used as a weapon of terror.
Storm Trooper armor has been used since the days of the clone wars which took place 18 years before the battle of Yavin. In the early days of the Storm Trooper armor they wore colored designs to distinguish corps affiliation or legion that they were assigned to. These colored designs were later forced to be removed so as to accommodate the new Imperial uniformity protocol. This is how we have come to know the white armor of the Storm Trooper. This armor has come equipped with every thing that the Storm Trooper may need when on a mission. This includes:
- standard issue utility belts. These belts are equipped with compartments for storing ammunition for blaster side arms.
- concentrated rations.
- emergency batteries.
- grappling hook and cable.
- a miniature thermal detonator.
- a spare comlink.
Though a direct hit from a blaster laser may penetrate the armor, the armor itself greatly reduces damage from the laser as it is absorbed. The reason for this is due to the fact that within the armor there are many different blast energy sinks that are placed. These sinks are designed to absorb the energy that comes from a blaster bolt.
As for the body glove piece of the armor, it is temperature controlled and will function normally under extreme circumstances such as extreme hot or cold environments. For short periods of time these body gloves can even function in complete vacuums. With these features, the Storm Trooper armor can be considered a survival suit as well as a battle armor.
The helmet for this armor is of a magnificent design. The construction for the Storm Trooper helmet consist of four separate layers. Starting with the inner most layer, these layers are an insulator, then comes a layer of magnetic shielding, then a layer of anti-laser mesh and then finally a layer of plastoid composite armor. As the era of the Storm Trooper progressed, so did the technology for the helmet armor. When one puts on this helmet that strikes fear into the hearts of their enemies they will notice these new technological features.
They include:
- Cooling and atmosphere controlling systems.
- Built in comlink for better access to their superiors.
- Automatic polarizing and flash blinding lenses. These lenses protected the Storm Trooper from glare and other hazards that might obscure their vision.
- Advanced Breathing Filters. These filters protected the Storm Trooper from harmful contaminates such as toxins.
- Multi-Frequency Targeting and Acquisition System. This system aided in the Storm Troopers visual perception, allowing him to see through darkness, smoke and other visual obstructions.
Since the early days of the Storm Trooper armor there have only been a few small changes. These changes are not so much of the overall design, but more towards the types of missions for which the troopers were sent out on. Many of these different designs consisted of snow troopers, Sand Troopers, Scout Troopers, Dark Troopers and Sea Troopers. Each one designed for a certain type of environment, but still remain with the overall design concept.
